PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been arrested for shooting his neighbor's pit bull after it wandered onto his property near Pensacola.

The Pensacola News Journal reports 55-year-old Rickie Joe Fontenot was arrested last week for the shooting that happened on May 18. He's charged with firing a weapon and causing cruelty, pain and suffering to an animal.

The dog's owner told Escambia County Sheriff's deputies he found his dog with blood covering his face. The deputy found small hole on the dog's face consistent with shotgun pellets.

    The dog survived the shooting.

The owner told deputies Flex had escaped from a fenced enclosure after a latch broke.

Fontenot told investigators the dog was aggressive toward him. He was released from jail on bond. A lawyer isn't listed on jail records.
