• Kings Bowl scores 'strike' with new gourmet menu

    By: Krista Joy

Recently Kings Bowl Orlando invited us out to sample some of the "striking" recently debuted on their menu, and (of course!) do a little bowling too. Kings’ menu is already pretty extensive, featuring all kinds of fare from burgers and wings to steak, seafood and barbecue ribs. The new items offer a nod to lighter fare - and also a creative twist to some old favorites.

Let's start with the amazing Bacon Cheddar Tots with Spicy Sour Cream!

Are you ready for salad? My favorite was the Beet and Apple. It's made with baby arugula, sliced apples, roasted beets, Gorgonzola, candied walnuts and a cranberry poppy seed vinaigrette. The taste was just the right combination of savory and sweet.

The Kale and Cranberry Salad comes complete with toasted walnuts, shitake mushrooms, goat cheese, chia seeds, and warm pomegranate vinaigrette. My husband said he liked this one the best.

These aren't your typical wings! These are baked instead of fried to be a bit healthier, but there's no shortage of taste. Due to the unique shape - these are fittingly called "lollipop wings." Kings' Famous Baked Wings come in two varieties. The one pictured here is the Honey Hot Habanero. If you are they type that enjoys some kick to your wings - you will love these! My lips were tingling for a good 5 minutes after I sampled one. I think when I go back I will go for the Honey Garlic flavor instead, but that's just me.

Let's move on to the main course! I really enjoyed the Grilled Shrimp Sandwich. This comes complete with sliced avocado, shredded lettuce, tomato, pico de gallo and spice avocado sauce.

The Whole Wheat Fettuccine includes baby spinach, marinated cherry tomatoes, diced asparagus and fresh basil. It's served with tomato butter sauce and shaved Parmesan. You can also add grilled chicken or shrimp if you desire. You can taste the freshness of the pasta. This is a really special dish - not something you would ever expect in a bowling alley.

This one threw me for a loop. I like chicken salad as much as the next person, but this was (hands down!) my favorite food of the night. The Apple Raisin Chicken Salad Sandwich is amazing. Ingredients include celery and almonds over lettuce and tomato. You then have your choice of whole grain bread, or for a healthier option, you can go with Boston lettuce wraps instead.

If burgers are more your thing, you won't want to miss these next couple of items. The Greek Burger shown here is topped with feta, red pepper hummus, lettuce, tomato and a unique and yummy tzatziki sauce.

Maybe not quite as healthy, but certainly very delicious, is the Mac & Cheese Burger! This was very unique with melted cheddar, griddled tomatoes with fried mac & cheese bites, topped with sun-dried tomato aioli. YUM!!

Not to be missed for dessert - the Oreo S'Mores Brownie Sundae. This one is every bit as good as it looks, and includes vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, S'Mores Brownie, crushed Oreos and whipped cream.

All of the food at Kings Bowl Orlando is made from scratch. Even the pickles are pickled “in house”. Robert Morris, Marketing and Operations Manager at Kings,  proudly told us that this is not typical bowling alley food. He is so right! Even if you don’t love to bowl, almost everyone can appreciate this wonderful food!

Kings (kingsbowlamerica.com/orlando) is a spectacular retro-style bowling alley, full-service lounge and restaurant, swanky bar and entertainment center all rolled into one 30,000 square foot building! If you have the chance, be sure to check out the King Pin room. Kings Bowl Orlando is located on South International Drive and is the first of several places coming to this developing area, which is very close to the future location of the new Orlando Eye Complex. The staff at Kings leave nothing to be desired, and are very attentive. Locals and visitors to the Orlando will want to check out Kings - and give these new menu items a try!
