    Keynote Speaker

Amy Bolton, Lead Educator for Deep Time from the Smithsonian Presents:

Lessons From the Field: An Educator's Journey Distilling Paleontology For Museum Audiences

Smithsonian Educator Amy Bolton illustrates how her fossil-hunting expeditions working alongside paleontologists influenced her creative (and accurate) development of educational activities that distill complex scientific research about our planet's history into engaging and accessible learning moments. From charting mammoth, mastodon, and elephant ancestral lineages to comparing microscopic scans of fossil gingko to chart future climate trends, Amy shares the inside scoop on how she has blended rigorous and open-ended scientific discovery with the similarly open-ended process of informal Museum exploration.

Finally, as public audiences deeply trust the content and informal education experiences they enjoy in Museum settings, Amy highlights how to make learning about dinosaurs, microfossils, and climate change meaningful and poignant to a diversity of audiences.

Supported in part by the Smithsonian Institution and the Smithsonian Orlando Regional Council.
