Orlando, Fla. - The Universal Orlando Resort just announced that the Dragon Challenge coaster, located inside of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at Universal's Islands of Adventure, will be permanently closing to make way for a 'new generation of thrill ride' that will open in 2019.
While not many details have been released, we do know that this all-new attraction will be a coaster experience that is highly themed and will take you deeper into J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World with a heightened level of storytelling and adventure featuring some of your favorite characters and creatures.
And while the attraction promises its share of surprises, it will also be a family-friendly experience for everyone to enjoy.
To bring this new attraction to life the Universal Creative team is working closely with Warner Bros. and the production design team from the Harry Potter films.
The announcement made earlier today on the Official Universal Orlando Blog touts, "This ride is going to redefine the category and transport you to thrilling places, drawing you into even more exciting adventures within the wizarding world. It’s going to be the perfect addition to Hogsmeade."
Dragon Challenge's last day of operation will be Monday, September 4, 2017, so fans will want to make sure that they head over to Universal's Islands of Adventure to get one last ride in before it closes.
We'll be bringing you more information about this upcoming Harry Potter themed coaster experience opening in 2019 as well as ongoing coverage of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Florida on @icFloridaEvents on Twitter and Facebook!
