December has finally arrived and that means we have loads of holiday-themed fun happening across Central Florida.
First up, this evening, Winter Park’s historic Park Avenue will transform into a festive holiday plaza for Winter on the Avenue, a popular local tradition to help kick off the season. The night includes the tree-lighting ceremony, live entertainment, a movie in the park, merchant open houses, a window decorating contest, and of course a visit from Mr. & Mrs. Claus. And make sure you wake up early Saturday morning to catch Ye Olde Hometown Christmas Parade.
Next is a proud WFTV 9 Family Connection tradition that is taking its show on the road to Volusia County for the first time. That’s right, it’s time for our first Santa Saturday event, happening Saturday at One Daytona. Bring a new, unwrapped toy for the United States Marine Corps Reserve 2017 Toys for Tots Campaign and enjoy free photos with Santa, live entertainment, giveaways, prizes, and a whole bunch of holiday-themed family fun.
Looking forward to next week, Parrish Medical Center in Titusville kicks off the holiday season with its annual Gift of Light community celebration. The event is free and features holiday performances, baked goodies, games, prizes, a spectacular tree lighting, and a fabulous fireworks display. Gift of Light takes place next Thursday, December seventh.
If there is one thing that people go wild for over the holidays, it’s lights. And the more sparkling, twinkling and brilliantly appealing the better.
The folks at Daytona International Speedway took that notion to heart and turned it up another notch as the “World Center of Racing,” the largest lighted sports facility in North America, has transformed into a holiday spectacle with the Magic of Lights drive-through holiday lights experience. Magic of Lights is open daily through December 31.
