Disney Springs restaurant news and more in this week's Theme Park Thursday

by: Shelley Caran Updated:

Orlando, Fla. - Disney Springs at Walt Disney World has quickly become a go-to destination for shopping, dining, and eating for Orlando locals and tourists alike as you can really find something for everyone in one location.

Recently they have made some big announcements of new restaurants that will be joining the existing line-up of eateries in the coming year, and I am really getting excited about all the new additions.

Wine Bar George

Master Sommelier George Miliotes will be returning to Walt Disney World when his Wine Bar George opens in early 2018 next door to Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant at The Landing in Disney Springs.

Miliotes is widely regarded as one of the restaurant industry’s foremost wine experts with accolades and awards from national publications including Wine Spectator. Miliotes is no stranger to Walt Disney World Resort – he was part of the opening team of California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and managed the venue from 1995 to 2002. While there, he created an award-winning wine list and one of the first 100 wines by the glass lists in the country.

“I’m excited to return to Walt Disney World Resort, and Disney Springs is the perfect place to open a wine bar and share my passion with the world,” Miliotes said. “Having the opportunity to train and hire my own team while sharing my 40-plus years of knowledge is truly incredible, and I look forward to opening our doors in the coming year.”

Wine Bar George will be the only Master Sommelier-led wine bar in Florida, and its design is reminiscent of a renovated winery with over 200 seats and 6,000-square-feet will feature wood ceilings, warm lighting, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Wine Bar George will also feature a food menu with small plates, family style items and cheese and charcuterie designed to complement the wine list. Offerings will feature local artisans and seasonally relevant items.

Guests can expect their experience to include wine education, which will be served up in an approachable and fun manner. Every part of the Wine Bar George experience, including special events and visits from renowned winemakers, will educate and enlighten guests about food and wine. And you can get a taste of what you can expect to learn by following @WineBarGeorge on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Construction of Wine Bar George is well under way, and they are now hiring with interviews starting in late fall and interested candidates can visit https://winebargeorge.com/join to view available positions and submit their application.

The Basket

Located right beneath Wine Bar George will be a quick grab-and-go location called The Basket.

While right now not too many details exist about The Basket yet, but we do know that it will feature a large selection of wines and cheeses as well as fresh sandwiches perfect for the shopper on the move.

Terralina

Terralina Crafted Italian, a new dining experience curated by James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano, will open this fall at Disney Springs. The new restaurant, which will replace the space at The Landing previously occupied by Portobello Country Italian Trattoria, is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar makeover inspired by Italy’s Lake District.

Terralina’s menu will feature authentic, Italian cuisine cooked in Chef Tony’s signature olive oil, imported directly from Italy. The restaurant’s wood-burning oven will fire up a selection of artisanal, hand-tossed pizzas and fresh vegetable dishes. Fan favorites from Portobello Country Italian Trattoria such as the antipasti platter and signature pasta dishes will remain on the menu alongside new additions such as mussels and pork chops.

“It’s been an honor to lead the concept and vision for Terralina Crafted Italian,” said Tony Mantuano, James Beard award winning chef. “We wanted to create a dining experience that would transport guests to the shores of Italy. Focusing on the hearth of the kitchen, dishes will embody the passion and flare of the flames. Executive Chef Justin Plank and I cannot wait for guests to come in and have a taste of Italy.”

Terralina will offer guests waterfront views of Lake Buena Vista, and a new veranda bar that will be serving craft cocktails, muddled with herbs similar to those grown in a garden located right outside the restaurant.

We don't have an official opening date for Terralina, but we do know it will open this Fall for lunch and dinner.

Jaleo

Opening in 2018 on the West Side is Jaleo, a concept by world-renowned Chef José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup.

Bringing the spirit and flavors of Spain, the Disney Springs restaurant will feature an extensive menu of tapas that reflect the rich regional diversity of traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine, such as paella cooked over a wood fire, hand-carved Jamon Iberico de Bellota and wood-grilled Iberico pork. The first floor of the multi-level restaurant will feature a “grab-n-go” storefront with Spanish-style sandwiches.

Designed by noted Spanish designer Juli Capella, the multi-level space will feature vibrant, theatrical décor representing the colorful culture of Spain.

Construction kicked into high gear a few days ago and will take over the former location of Wolfgang Puck's Westside.

Wolfgang Puck

Also in 2018, a new Wolfgang Puck concept will open in a new location at Disney Springs.

Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, will modernize the traditional “bar and grill” concept in a setting inspired by traditional farmhouses with a touch of elegance. The restaurant, designed by tonychi, will capture the essence of laid-back California dining made popular by Puck at Spago, his flagship restaurant in Los Angeles.

The menu will highlight the best of Puck’s signature dishes with Mediterranean influences, innovative takes on comfort food classics and handcrafted specialty cocktails, beer and wine.

Construction of the new Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill is well under way, just outside of the covered shopping area of Town Center at Disney Springs.

The Edison

Opening later this year, The Edison, a lavish “Industrial Gothic” restaurant, bar and nighttime destination will debut. A collaboration of Patina Restaurant Group and Kinetescape’s Andrew Meieran, The Edison is noted for classic American food, craft cocktails, and live entertainment including cabaret.

With Old World sophistication and romance, The Edison will be themed to a 1920s-era electric company, recalling an exuberant era of invention and imagination with entertainment that includes contortionists, aerialists, DJs and more.

Magical Dining Month Continues

Also don't forget that Magical Dining Month is still going strong, and there are three locations at Disney Springs (Morimoto Asia, Paddlefish, and STK) that are participating!

Magical Dining Month menus feature three courses for $35 per person, including appetizer, entrée, and dessert. One dollar from each meal supports Freedom Ride and BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation. STK Orlando is offering their Magical Dining Menu through October 1, 2017 while Paddlefish and Morimoto Asia have extended through October 12, 2017. Keep in mind that the menu cannot be altered in any way and that it cannot be combined with other offers, packages or discounts.

Make sure that you make reservations in advance by using the My Disney Experience App, Walt Disney World Website, using the links for each restaurant above, or by calling 407-WDW-DINE.

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

When Fall hits Pumpkin Spice fans rejoice, and this year Disney Springs has three locations offering unique treats for the season.

Vivoli il Gelato at The Landing in Disney Springs is offering a Pumpkin Mudslide that features their Pumpkin gelato, tiramisu gelato, and crema gelato that is then topped with chocolate sauce and whipped cream.

Sprinkles Cupcakes and Ice Cream in Disney Springs has a Pumpkin Spice Cupcake that is a pumpkin cake laced with fragrant ginger, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and topped with sweet cinnamon cream cheese frosting.

At the Ganachery in The Landing at Disney Springs chocolate lovers can find Pumpkin Spice Latte Ganache Squares which are chocolate ganache squares elegantly decorated with fall and Halloween-themed designs with pumpkin spice and coffee notes.

Disney Springs Tips

With so many things to do at Disney Springs, the destination can get quite busy so I wanted to share some of my best insider tips for making the most of your time there!

Parking at Disney Springs is free, which is awesome, and the two large parking garages make parking a breeze. The Orange Parking Garage is idea for visiting the Westside and the AMC movie theaters, but it is also a great place to park if you are visiting Town Center closest to the covered area or dining in locations of The Landing near The Boathouse. Parking in Lime Garage is perfect for heading into Town Center or to the Marketplace, but keep in mind that the escalators and elevators are located in the center of the parking garage instead of their location on the ends in the Orange Garage.

Valet parking at Disney Springs also has a great perk in that if you start at one end, you can text to have your car ready at another valet parking location when you leave.

Nights and weekends are often the most busy times at Disney Springs, so if you could squeeze in an afternoon visit you will find less crowds.

Several locations have either loyalty programs or special offers for their guests, so make sure that you watch at each restaurant for advertisements for these programs. My favorite is actually at Blaze pizza, because you can earn free pizza and they are always sending out coupons.

That's it for this week's Theme Park Thursday looking at the new restaurants and news from Disney Springs at Walt Disney World!
